Participante‘Better too much than too little’: in Mediterranean culture, abundance is synonymous with hospitality. Running out of food for guests is perceived almost as a social failure. This cultural mindset leads us to generate higher levels of food waste during Christmas. Although this phenomenon could be said to be global, in Spain, as a Mediterranean country, it has very distinctive cultural nuances due to our way of understanding celebrations around the table.
If I may, I would like to take advantage of this forum to encourage everyone to voluntarily commit to taking small steps to ‘waste nothing’, which would bring us closer to the goal of ‘zero waste, even at Christmas’.

ParticipanteLately, there has been more talk about microplastic pollution in aquatic resources, and not just in rivers or seas, but also in the drinking water we consume. Recent studies indicate the presence of microplastics in household water (9.24 particles per litre) and even higher levels in bottled water in PEC (4,889 particles per litre). https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2468584418300436?via%3Dihub
To open the debate on water, I would start with the invisible and tasteless contamination caused by microplastics, which, due to their size (5 microns), are capable of crossing the intestinal barrier. Are we aware of this problem? Do we have data from other cities that indicate the extent of the problem? Could we take small steps to minimise its effects on the human body? I’ll leave it there…Adjuntos:

ParticipanteSpanish citizens are obliged by law to divide their household waste into the different bins available. In fact, 82% of households have at least two different spaces to separate their waste.
Meanwhile, technology is advancing and automatic sorting methods are becoming more and more sophisticated. If it can be done in this way, is it still useful, even in 2025, for citizens to take responsibility for separating their household waste manually?
