‘Better too much than too little’: in Mediterranean culture, abundance is synonymous with hospitality. Running out of food for guests is perceived almost as a social failure. This cultural mindset leads us to generate higher levels of food waste during Christmas. Although this phenomenon could be said to be global, in Spain, as a Mediterranean country, it has very distinctive cultural nuances due to our way of understanding celebrations around the table.

If I may, I would like to take advantage of this forum to encourage everyone to voluntarily commit to taking small steps to ‘waste nothing’, which would bring us closer to the goal of ‘zero waste, even at Christmas’.
