ParticipantIt is crucial for the proper functioning of the recycling process, without citizens the process cannot work

ParticipantSpanish citizens are obliged by law to divide their household waste into the different bins available. In fact, 82% of households have at least two different spaces to separate their waste.
Meanwhile, technology is advancing and automatic sorting methods are becoming more and more sophisticated. If it can be done in this way, is it still useful, even in 2025, for citizens to take responsibility for separating their household waste manually?

ParticipantA very interesting reflection, but today, with 82% of citizens "recycling" and significant advances in the technology of our sorting plants, our recycling data is alarming. In the case of Cieza, more than 80% of waste ends up in landfills.
Another very important question is the one Alesandro points out: can we afford to implement technologies that recycle for us? If the current service seems expensive, what would be the cost of a completely autonomous system? Could we afford it?
In my opinion, awareness is essential. While children are very aware and actively participating, what about adults? How do we reach them? Are sanctions a solution?

ParticipantA very interesting question and reflection... opting for this change would mean going backwards in what has been achieved so far in terms of awareness or perhaps progress that should be accompanied by new measures for awareness, logistics, etc.
Thank you Mr. Duck

ParticipantThe waste collection service, unlike other essential public services such as water, electricity, gas, has a fundamental peculiarity: the producer/user is a fundamental actor, without whom the quality of the service and its objectives are compromised. I turn on the tap and water comes out, I press a button and the light turns on, I turn on the stove and I can cook my food, no particular discipline is required on my part. Instead, if I don't separate my waste starting from under the sink, no one will do it downstream for me. And not only will I produce a bad result for the overall performance, but the service will also be more inconvenient for me, regardless of the form of disposal.
All this, together with the natural discontent with the tariffs (common to other services), fuels distrust in the service and distances the user from their goals. So how can we avoid this short circuit?
It is necessary that:
1. the service is widespread, that it reaches all users and that it is usable, accessible and as convenient as possible.
2. the user is aware of the objectives that govern the choices of the service, it must be explained why we pursue maximum separate waste collection, that it is not a question of pinning a medal on your chest for global scale objectives that are difficult for him to perceive. These objectives must be traced back to his daily experience in terms of tariff, costs on the products he buys, environmental effects of the disposal plants and for the production of raw materials.
3. The user participates in the choices of the administrations, one of the most difficult challenges in a service characterized by extreme complexity and constraints that are difficult for the common citizen to understand and multiplicity of individual interests (typically the population is divided between those who want door-to-door and those who want the bin, those who want the service closer to home for convenience and those far away for decorum, etc.)Among other topics we will talk about all this during the green innovation camp in Arezzo in October.

Participant'Better too much than too little': in Mediterranean culture, abundance is synonymous with hospitality. Running out of food for guests is perceived almost as a social failure. This cultural mindset leads us to generate higher levels of food waste during Christmas. Although this phenomenon could be said to be global, in Spain, as a Mediterranean country, it has very distinctive cultural nuances due to our way of understanding celebrations around the table.
If I may, I would like to take advantage of this forum to encourage everyone to voluntarily commit to taking small steps to 'waste nothing', which would bring us closer to the goal of ' zero waste, even at Christmas '.

Super AdministratorTextile waste has become one of the planet's biggest pollution problems. Excessive consumption on fast fashion platforms is undoubtedly a scourge for the environment, and of course, for the employment sector, since these brands also exploit their workers.

ParticipantAn interesting and necessary initiative that should be accompanied by educational messages to the public about the real impact on the environment, natural resources, the impact on fossil fuel consumption and the carbon footprint from transporting these products, the economic and social impact marked by competitive disadvantage, etc… I think we should all think a little more about what we want and what we do…
