Lately, there has been more talk about microplastic pollution in aquatic resources, and not just in rivers or seas, but also in the drinking water we consume. Recent studies indicate the presence of microplastics in household water (9.24 particles per liter) and even higher levels in bottled water in PEC (4,889 particles per liter). https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2468584418300436?via%3Dihub
To open the debate on water, I would start with the invisible and tasteless contamination caused by microplastics, which, due to their size (5 microns), are capable of crossing the intestinal barrier. Are we aware of this problem? Do we have data from other cities that indicate the extent of the problem? Could we take small steps to minimize its effects on the human body? I'll leave it there…

Another important issue related to the above has been a topic we've experienced in recent days. Unfortunately, last week in the Region of Murcia, the effects of Dana have caused drinking water in some municipalities due to water levels caused by mud and sludge. The entity responsible for ensuring the drinking water service is working to restore the drinking water service.

Europe urges Spain and other countries to properly transpose the Drinking Water Directive.

The recast Drinking Water Directive enhances the protection of human health by updating water quality standards, addressing contaminants of concern such as endocrine disruptors and microplastics, and providing cleaner tap water
It also addresses the issue of water leaks, as currently an average of 30% of drinking water is lost during distribution in the EU.
