Vilnius residents discover how traffic and urban design affect the air they breathe

How clean is the air we breathe? How much noise surrounds us every day?

These were some of the questions asked by residents who visited the LIFE GreenMe5 stand during Neighbors' Day, held on May 29.

The event, held in the neighborhood where the project's pilot street is located in Vilnius, brought the debate on air pollution directly to the community where LIFE GreenMe5 is testing innovative solutions to improve air quality. Visitors were able to learn more about the project and see the environmental monitoring in action.

Using air quality and noise monitoring devices, residents were able to see pollution levels in real time and discover how traffic and urban design influence their daily environment. To encourage discussion, the LIFE GreenMe5 team also prepared interactive activities.

Residents voted for the measures they felt would be most effective in reducing air pollution and reflected on the everyday choices between clean air and convenience, such as using a car.

These activities encouraged participants to share their opinions and brainstorm urban solutions that can contribute to cleaner, healthier cities. The event also highlighted the project's pilot street, where sensors continuously monitor air quality while measures such as increased vegetation, temporary traffic restrictions, and improved street cleaning are being tested.

Through these activities, LIFE GreenMe5 is not only testing solutions, but also helping residents to better understand local environmental challenges and participate in the debate on
