The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia received a visit from the students of the IES Ingeniero de la Cierva, accompanied by a group of students from Hungary, within the framework of the European Green Citizens of Tomorrow project , developed within the Erasmus+ program.
During the meeting, the FMRM presented several European projects related to sustainability, climate adaptation and environmental protection, with special attention to the LIFE GreenMe5 project , a European initiative led by the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia.
This project sparked the most interest among the students, who were able to learn firsthand how innovative solutions are being promoted at the local level to move towards greener, more sustainable municipalities committed to current environmental challenges.
During the presentation, the Federation shared various results from the LIFE GreenMe5 project, including the temperature change recorded in the municipality of Cieza following the renaturalization efforts carried out in its streets and schools. This data allowed the students to see the real impact that nature-based solutions can have on improving urban comfort, adapting to climate change, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
The FMRM shared the objectives and main lines of work of LIFE GreenMe5 with students and their teachers from the English Department, emphasizing the importance of European cooperation and the role of municipalities in the ecological transition. They also discussed other environmental initiatives in which the Federation participates, such as LIFE CityAdap3 , HEATSAFE (part of the Interreg Euro-MED program), and Med-Hubs (part of the EMFAF program).
The FMRM presented young people with the challenge of taking an active role as a new generation of European citizens committed to the environment, capable of leading sustainable actions and becoming an example within the European green map.
With this visit, the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia reinforces its commitment to environmental education, European cooperation and the involvement of young people in building more sustainable, resilient municipalities prepared to face climate challenges.
